A Farm Outing

Saturday, June 8th marked the beginning of Hubbard Days in my hometown of Hubbard, Iowa.  I have so many fun memories of this occasion ranging from childhood to adulthood.  Frequently, Dad had some sort of "float" (aka a tractor or a pickup) running in the parade for his business, Dubberke Seeds.  Often, my brother and I were active participants with Dad on his "float."  This year, a family friend suggested that we run his beloved antique Farmall M in the parade in honor of Dad.  What a nice idea--it was a wonderful tribute to his presence in the parade.  Unfortunately, 3 out of 4 of my children's ears were infected and I was unable to attend the festivities this year.  Luckily, my brother and my friend Stephanie were able to make it and took these great pictures for our family.

Seeing all of the pictures my brother took of the rural Iowa parade made me miss the country and my farm, hence, we decided to pack the kiddos up the following weekend (after they were feeling MUCH better) and visit Purina Farms, a wonderful (YET AGAIN FREE) place to visit with the children.  It's about a 40 minute drive from our house.  We had a blast and will definitely be going back again soon!

We hope you enjoy this "farm" post as much as we do!

Hubbard Days 2013.  Dad was greatly missed!

Purina Farms

There was even a free agility dog show, just like what you see on t.v.!

In the building behind Haune, there was an actual dog show--judging and all.
We were able to walk around and check out all of the dogs being groomed/prepped
for the special occasion.
The dog show.

  1. What a nice tribute to your dad to have his tractor on display with a sign in his memory! The tractor is quite a beauty too. You can tell he took great care of it.
What a fun place Purina Farms is! I think Cal has a little work to do on his tractor with that one front wheel all wonky and then just like his dad trying to be a daredevil and driving backwards!
Not surprised to see the kids hanging in the doorway with Haune behind them with that fun loving grin on his face. :-) Love it!!!
